A month ago I predicted that I would have written so often that you'd be tired of hearing about Contigo by now. I have so much I want to write about, so many great stories to share! 30 days and 3 posts later, though, it appears I didn't quite reach my goal. The reality of opening a restaurant without partners is there's just not enough time to do everything.
Which brings me to another reality: there will be no summer opening for Contigo. Indian summer? Maybe. Autumn? Definitely. [Note to self: add "change opening menu" to to-do list].
The space is shaping up nicely. The cabinetmakers and finish carpenters have been busy and are nearly completed their work. The long-awaited reclaimed oak arrived a few weeks ago. It was salvaged from an old barn in Connecticut (barns out west tend to be made of softer woods that are less appropriate for converting into restaurant banquettes, benches, and counters). When I told my architect I wanted the space to look like a cross between a barn and a loft, I didn't know he would take me so literally. Adds new meaning to the term "farm to table."
Take a look at the carpenters' and cabinetmakers' handiwork below. I'm especially happy with how well the 2-inch thick kitchen dining counter came out. It's rock solid. The finely crafted banquettes are super comfortable too, due to their gently sloping, form fitting angles. Thank my architects for that detail. I'm hoping many of you will become intimately familiar with these banquettes and counters in just a few short weeks and for many years to come.
Looks great, Brett!!
We plugged your progress on our blog. Looking forward to finally trying the food.

We can hardly wait! We've been watching the progress from the outside everyday, and it sure is looking good.

Wowee! It really looks amazing! Is it truly the very same place that had shelves full of computer stuff? It has truly transformed. When we visit, we promise not to etch our names into the beautiful banquettes... as if those seats belonged to us permanently!

Brett, love the images of building out the restaurant - especially the orange clamps! Best of luck in your new venture - Buzz and I will be following along to see when you open and we'll be among your first customers!

I've been watching your progress and cannot wait to visit your place next time I'm in town! That'll be in February so I know you'll be open by then.
